Hey Ryan,

Everything we do is technically a masterpiece because nothing existed before it. The next piece will be the next masterpiece and so on and so forth.

Repetition is key, the key is repetition. I took the same advice you were given and showed up everyday for my newsletter and the small community forming around it. Haven’t missed a day yet. Every post gives me a chance to produce a masterpiece.

Keep up the good work as always. If you want to collaborate, you know where to find me.

Thanks Nikhil! I think the masterpiece is, as you say in the repetition, doing the little things you need to do every day to live a fulfilling life. And don't worry, I don't intend to be curating any more music in my posts! :)

The most important things I’ve learned from following your writing journey are (a) just write (b) prepare to be shit - you’ll get better (c) if writing is your passion stick at it. You’ve been a real inspiration to me.

My fear Paul is that you will start writing. The landscape is competitive enough as it is. I think those are three very good bits of advice for any writer or artist.

As the great Tony Robbins said, 'there are no failures, only outcomes'. You didn't close two unsuccessful businesses, you ran two successful businesses. You achieved solid outcomes for your customers and clients in an extremely hostile and difficult, if not anti-business climate. I was one of your partners and our clients valued what you produced and did for us. Don't be so harsh on yourself. And now, I look forward to seeing you become the next Colleen McCullough .....

Very kind words Chris! And you are right, in terms of economic longevity, failures, but in terms of what those businesses gave me - the ability to live on my own terms, the people I met, the experiences I had, they were both successes. Thanks for reminding me of that. And if only I had an ounce of the talent of Colleen!

Great one, Ryan. ‘Inflection point’ key one for anyone who understands it and cares to stop and think…it has the potential to change lives.

Thanks Raju. I am now wondering if I spelt inflection/inflexion wrong! The key word is potential. But sometimes it is hard to find that time to stop and reflect. I am going to write more about this in the next few posts.

Enjoyed this Ryan, connected with the part about holding onto those who have the courage to tell you the truth and believing in you (perhaps even believing in yourself). I love sitting in cafes and being idle and actually observing those writing in journals or clearly using the free wifi to hustle for their start-up. May we have less empty cafes, we need more of these people in the world

I'm glad you enjoyed Bernice. I am now one of those people hanging around cafes looking for free wifi. Have become quite good at it!

Write...write some more; keep writing. If that is what makes you get out of bed everyday, then write. The difficulty in all we do, is that someone, somewhere "judges" us for what we do - in office, in our business, in our writing, in our living. It is when you set the terms of that "judgement" of sorts that allows you some sense of liberation. It becomes not of the judgement, but the purpose. Write. Because it makes you happy. You find yourself. You are yourself. Maybe for now, put aside the "how do I...?" and just write.

As always, love your work.

Hey Ryan, first of all I'm here at Nikhil's recommendation, so I thought I had better subscribe and see what you have here. I look forward to reading more.

So changes and COVID. Just before COVID I was recovering from spine fusion surgery and wondering what to do next. After my back injury I was made redundant from my job and was off work for a year, so I started a writing business. I wrote marketing copy, company newsletters, articles for websites and press releases for companies in NZ, Aussie, USA and Canada.

My wife heard about a job doing close contact calling for COVID, working from home. I applied and for the next year I was a shift lead and then team leader for about 20 callers, working with and on behalf of the Ministry of Health. During quiet times, I was allowed to continue my writing business which I called Telling Our Stories. The same company doing the COVID work led to an offer to be a Field Coach for door to door researchers for various government ministries, again working from home (in fact for the 2 1/2 years I was allowed to work from anywhere, provided I had privacy and a fast internet connection. I've just left to pursue a new contract, which will also see me working a lot from home, although a bit more hybrid. I'd love to continue just writing for a living, but I will need to build up a lot more tips first :)

Welcome aboard, Luigi! I love Nikhil's daily recommendations. I don't know how he keeps up at that rate. Good on you for branching out. It took me a long time to realise that the only way to get better at writing is by writing.

Thanks Ryan. Nikhil is a great connector. I do wonder about frequency, but it also comes down to the length of the posts. I feel I need to read everything from people I am following, which can be time consuming, but also rewarding. With my writing, I like to think that people can pick the posts they resonate with, which is my ultimate aim, to have people relate and remember their own life experiences while reading about mine :)

Very kind but I am happy to put it into the world for free. I think I get more out of writing it than the readers reading.

Funny how I always believed that you were destined for greatness - sporting and intellectually, yet always hoped that you’d be “home” so we could relive the glory days of our journey into adulthood.

Another piece that delves into what makes us who we are buddy
